Sherwood was once a royal hunting forest, and is also the legendary home of the outlaw Robin Hood, today it's part of a National Nature Reserve, this is because of its national ecological importance. Within the 450 acre site there are 900 veteran oak trees, including the world famous "Major Oak". This ancient oak, one of Britain's most famous trees, is located just a ten minute walk from the Visitor Centre. Come and visit one of the world's most famous woods!
The world famous Robin Hood Festival this year launches the ‘Summer in Sherwood’ season where there will be celebration of the legend right through the summer holidays! There will be drumming workshops and mini beast hunts, medieval characters, have a go archery - Sherwood promises the perfect family day out.
You can also visit the free official ‘Robin Hood – The Movie’ exhibition designed by Universal Pictures with props from the new Russell Crowe film, making Sherwood the place to visit this summer.
